IVY & OLIVE
Ivy and Olive are about to have their best day ever. But they don’t actually go anywhere. And they don’t actually do anything. Going and doing create limits. Instead, Ivy and Olive set out to explore the limitless joy that can only be found in the magical realm of imagination.
The girl and the owl take turns coming up with ideas on what to do this day—like plant a garden with their favorite fruit, lemonellon, or train for the Olympics where they’ll compete in jump rope ballet. The whimsical ideas keep coming and coming until they realize it’s the end of the day. Nothing has been decided but in the last moment, they come up with one solid decision—their very best ideas will come… tomorrow!
As a mother of two daughters, I witnessed how crazy magical it is to be a kid—the endless possibilities they have each day, the freedom to choose, or to change their minds on a whim. Kids believe they could create anything and they have a natural ability to find happiness in just… being. Many times I could hear my daughters brainstorming what to do with the last 15 minutes they had left before their friend had to leave. I found it so funny that what they were planning had no concept of “15 minutes” at all. I was in awe of their honesty, creativity, and shrewd negotiation process! Kids have so much natural wisdom, intuition and perspective. We could all learn from that wonderful lack of self-consciousness.
